Mykhailo Mudryk takes drugs ban appeal to Court of Arbitration for Sport

Mykhailo Mudryk has taken his fight against a Football Association drugs ban to the Court of Arbitration for Sport as he attempts to overturn the ruling and revive his career.

The Chelsea winger, 25, has not played competitively for nearly 18 months after returning an adverse finding in a routine drugs test in December 2024, which led to a provisional suspension. He was formally charged by the FA in June 2025, although it has not been confirmed whether a full ban has been imposed.

CAS confirmed that Mudryk filed his appeal in February 2026 and that both sides are currently exchanging written submissions, with a hearing date yet to be set.

The case is understood to centre on the presence of meldonium, a banned substance that can enhance endurance, which Mudryk may have come into contact with while on international duty with Ukraine. The player has consistently denied any wrongdoing, saying he was shocked by the result and has never knowingly taken banned substances.

Mudryk is being represented by Morgan Sports Law and is hoping to return to action later this year. In the meantime, he has continued training privately to maintain fitness while awaiting the outcome of the legal process.
