Ibrahima Konaté says he is “close to an agreement” with Liverpool over a new contract and believes there is a strong chance he will stay at Anfield next season.
The French defender, whose current deal runs out this summer, said talks with the club have been ongoing for a long time and are now at an advanced stage. He added that staying at Liverpool has always been his wish.
Konaté also suggested the delay in finalising the deal is part of the club’s usual process, and compared it to previous contract situations involving teammates.
He joined Liverpool from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has been part of the squad that won major trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup and EFL Cup.
Despite a difficult personal season, he said he remains focused on helping Liverpool finish strongly and qualify for the Champions League before turning attention to his future.
