Salman Ali Agha has received an official reprimand after reacting angrily to a controversial run out during Pakistan vs Bangladesh ODI on Friday.
The Pakistan batter threw his helmet and gloves to the ground after being run out by Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the 39th over.
Agha admitted breaking level one of the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct, so there was no formal hearing. He avoided a fine but received one demerit point on his disciplinary record.
The incident happened when a shot from Pakistan team-mate Mohammad Rizwan was hit back towards Agha at the non-striker’s end. The two players got tangled, leaving Agha outside his crease. As he tried to pick up the ball to return it, Mehidy grabbed it first and broke the stumps.
The decision was referred by on-field umpire Tanvir Ahmed to third umpire Kumar Dharmasena, who ruled Agha out. The Pakistan batter, who had scored 64 from 62 balls, left the field visibly angry.
Agha later said the run out followed the rules but believed the situation should have been handled with more sportsmanship.
Despite the drama, Pakistan scored 274 and bowled Bangladesh out for 114, winning the match by 128 runs using the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method to level the three-match series 1-1.
