Max Dowman, just 16 years old, made Premier League history as his late goal helped Arsenal beat Everton and go 10 points clear at the top of the Premier League.
The match looked like it would end in a draw until Arsenal substitute Viktor Gyokeres scored in the 89th minute after Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford misjudged Dowman’s cross.
Everton pushed forward for a late equaliser and even sent Pickford up for a corner in stoppage time. But with the goalkeeper out of position, Dowman ran past two defenders and calmly rolled the ball into the empty net.
With that goal, Dowman (16 years and 73 days) became the youngest scorer in Premier League history, breaking the record set by James Vaughan in 2005.
Everton had earlier come close to scoring when Dwight McNeil forced a brilliant block from Riccardo Calafiori and later hit the post with a curling shot.
Arsenal also felt they should have had a penalty when Michael Keane and Kai Havertz collided in the box, but it didn’t matter as the Gunners secured a late win.
Arsenal now lead the league by 10 points ahead of Manchester City, who play West Ham United later.
