Carrick had won his first four games in charge, but West Ham went ahead early in the second half through Tomas Soucek. Manchester United struggled for much of the match, with a near goal from Casemiro ruled out for offside.
Sesko, brought on to spark the team, scored a sharp finish past West Ham keeper Mads Hermansen in the final seconds, securing a 1-1 draw on a rain-soaked night in east London.
