Keely Hodgkinson says she is now targeting a world record after breaking the British indoor 800m mark at the UK Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
The 23-year-old Olympic champion clocked 1:56.33 in the heats, smashing her own national record by almost a second. It was the fastest women’s indoor 800m time in 24 years and the third-fastest ever.
Hodgkinson, who is not running the final as she prepares to compete in France later this week, said the performance was a “personal challenge” and a strong test ahead of the World Indoor Championships in Poland next month.
