Sandro Tonali scored twice as Newcastle United fought back to beat 10-man Aston Villa in a dramatic fourth-round tie in the FA Cup.
Villa had taken the lead through Tammy Abraham in controversial fashion, with no VAR in use and strong claims of offside. Newcastle were also frustrated when Lucas Digne handled inside the box but only a free-kick was given.
The game swung just before half-time when Villa goalkeeper Marco Bizot was sent off for a reckless high challenge on Jacob Murphy.
Newcastle made their extra man count after the break. Tonali equalised in the 63rd minute with a long-range strike that took a deflection, then fired home a superb second from distance to complete the turnaround. Nick Woltemade added a late third to seal a chaotic and memorable win for Eddie Howe’s side, sending them into the fifth round.
