India continued their dominance over Pakistan with a 61-run win in Colombo, booking their place in the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup. It was India’s ninth straight win over their rivals in completed matches.
There had been doubts about whether the game would take place because of political tensions, but it went ahead without major incidents.
The match was largely decided by opener Ishan Kishan, who smashed 77 off 40 balls to help India post 175-7. Despite Pakistan’s spinners slowing things down, the total proved too much.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah struck early in Pakistan’s chase, putting India in control. Usman Khan made 44, but Pakistan were bowled out for 114 in 18 overs.
India now move on in their title defence, while Pakistan must beat Namibia to reach the Super 8s.
