Celtic interim manager Martin O’Neill praised his team’s spirit and resilience after they fought back to earn a draw in Bologna, even though they were disappointed to lose a two-goal lead.
Celtic went ahead through Reo Hatate and Auston Trusty, but Hatate was sent off before half-time, leaving them with 10 men. Bologna used their extra player to score twice in the second half, but Celtic defended bravely to secure an important Europa League point.
The result keeps Celtic just inside the qualification places ahead of their final group game next week. O’Neill said his side showed great character under pressure and believes they would have won if they had stayed with 11 players.
Despite some frustration, Celtic’s strong defensive effort, led by Trusty and Liam Scales, means they are still in the competition as a big week approaches.
