Former Liverpool striker Ian Rush has revealed he feared he was going to die after collapsing at home earlier this month. The 64-year-old was rushed to hospital on 11 December and spent two days in intensive care after suffering from severe flu.
Rush said he struggled to breathe and genuinely thought the worst, praising the NHS and his partner Carol for helping save his life. After paramedics initially attended him at home, his condition briefly improved, but he collapsed soon after and had to be taken to hospital.
He spent five days in hospital and admitted the scare forced him to start preparing for the worst. Since his release, Rush has been doing breathing exercises daily and says he is now feeling stronger and healthier.
Speaking in Dubai, Rush said the experience has made him rethink parts of his life and appreciate the support he has received, especially from Liverpool Football Club and the wider football community. Messages from former teammates and football legends have helped lift his spirits as he continues his recovery.
