Pep Guardiola has said Manchester City players stayed very disciplined during the Christmas break to meet the club’s high standards.
The City boss revealed that players were weighed when they returned to training to make sure they were fit enough for Saturday’s Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. Guardiola joked that he personally gained weight over Christmas, but praised his squad for staying focused.
Guardiola explained that City players have shown this level of discipline for over 10 years and always understand what is expected of them as part of the club’s culture. He added that even during difficult periods with injuries, the players’ attitude has remained excellent.
He confirmed the squad met the required fitness levels before their 3-0 win over West Ham, while Erling Haaland also shared online that his weight was “all good”.
City could go top of the Premier League with a win at Forest, while Guardiola said the team is also well placed in the Champions League, Carabao Cup and FA Cup.
Looking ahead, Guardiola admitted “anything can happen” in the January transfer window, with Manchester City in talks to sign Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo. He also gave injury updates, saying Rodri is improving, while John Stones and Jeremy Doku remain sidelined.
