Former World Darts Championship semi-finalist Dave Chisnall was knocked out in the second round at Alexandra Palace, losing 3-2 to Germany's Ricardo Pietreczko.
Chisnall hit 11 maximum 180s while Pietreczko didn’t score any, and despite coming back from 2-0 down to force a deciding fifth set, Chisnall missed a chance to win and Pietreczko took the final three legs. Pietreczko will face Sweden's Andreas Harrysson in the third round after Christmas.
Meanwhile, world number 29 Dirk van Duijvenbode also went out, losing 3-2 to England’s James Hurrell. Hurrell will next play world number four Stephen Bunting or India’s Nitin Kumar.
Ryan Searle, the 20th seed, started the second round with a strong 3-0 win over Northern Ireland’s Brendan Dolan, hitting nine doubles out of 14 attempts. Harrysson also advanced with a 3-0 win over Motomu Sakai.
Earlier, Scottish teenager Mitchell Lawrie won the JDC World Youth Championship, beating Kaya Baysal 5-2.
