Isak Comes Off Inured as Liverpool hold on to beat Nine-man Tottenham

Alexander Isak came off the bench to score for Liverpool but got injured while doing so, as the Reds won a chaotic Premier League clash at nine-man Tottenham. Isak opened the scoring in the 56th minute before Hugo Ekitike made it 2-0 ten minutes later.

Spurs substitute Richarlison pulled one back, but Liverpool held on, piling more pressure on Thomas Frank, whose team had Xavi Simons and Cristian Romero sent off and have now won just one of their last eight league games.

Simons was shown a red card after a VAR review for a serious foul on Virgil van Dijk. Isak was brought on at half-time after Conor Bradley got injured and scored after a pass from Florian Wirtz, but was forced off 15 minutes later due to injury. Liverpool doubled their lead through Ekitike, who scored his fifth goal in three games. Spurs protested the goal, claiming a foul, but Romero was booked for his complaints.

Richarlison scored late to give Spurs hope, but Romero was sent off in injury time, leaving Tottenham with nine men.

Liverpool held on to win, moving up to fifth in the Premier League and extending their unbeaten run to six games after a rough patch of nine defeats in 12 matches.
