Man Utd chiefs make decision on January market

Manchester United chiefs will not seek to buy in January, it has been claimed.

The Manchester Evening News says United are not actively pursuing any incomings in the January transfer window as they approach the final week of the season before the World Cup begins.

United shattered their summer transfer record with an investment of £225.4million on five players and sources have indicated their preference is to wait until the summer to start the second phase of their rebuild.

A goalscorer has already been identified as United's priority position next year and a right-back is likely to be targeted as manager Erik ten Hag was keen on reinforcing that area in the summer.

Football director John Murtough stressed in September United were "slightly ahead of where we expected to be" in their rebuild and do not expect a similar amount of incomings next summer.

The bulk of United's squad activity in the winter is likely to revolve around contract extensions and possible renewals, with decisions to be made on the deals of David de Gea, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Fred and Marcus Rashford
