George Furbank will make his first England start in almost two years when they take on South Africa in Saturday's Nations Championship opener at Ellis Park in Johannesburg.

The full-back features in a back three alongside Cadan Murley and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, while Tommy Freeman shifts into midfield to partner Seb Atkinson in the centres.

Up front, George Martin makes his first England start since the 2025 Six Nations, forming the second-row partnership with Alex Coles. Ollie Chessum moves to blindside flanker, with Ben Earl and Tom Curry completing the back row.

Northampton's Henry Pollock, who earned back-to-back Player of the Match awards during the Saints' Premiership title-winning campaign, is named among the replacements.

"Playing South Africa at Ellis Park is one of the great Tests in world rugby and an opportunity we're excited to embrace," said England head coach Steve Borthwick.

With regular captain Maro Itoje rested and absent from the tour, veteran hooker Jamie George captains the side. He is joined in the front row by props Ellis Genge and Joe Heyes.

Jack van Poortvliet starts at scrum-half alongside fly-half Fin Smith.
