Manchester City Agree Record Deal with Nottingham Forest for Anderson

Manchester City have agreed a deal with Nottingham Forest to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson for a club-record fee of £116 million.

The 23-year-old England international is expected to undergo a medical before completing his move to the Etihad Stadium.

City sources insist the transfer fee is a fixed £116 million with no performance-related add-ons, making it the most expensive signing in the club's history. However, other sources claim the deal could rise to £130 million, which would surpass the £125 million Liverpool paid Newcastle United for striker Alexander Isak last summer to become a new British transfer record.

Forest had rejected two previous offers from City, holding out for a higher valuation before the Premier League champions returned with a successful third bid.

Personal terms are not expected to pose any issues, with both parties confident of finalising the transfer.

The sale is expected to accelerate Forest's own recruitment plans. The club is interested in Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall and Inter Milan's Davide Frattesi, with two midfield additions anticipated this summer.

Anderson is currently with the England squad preparing for Saturday's final Group L match against Panama at the FIFA World Cup and said this week that he has deliberately blocked out speculation surrounding his future.

"I've got a plan and it's to perform for England. I'm putting myself in the best position to cross the line and do that."

Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United for £35 million in 2024 and has made 88 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

During his time at the City Ground, he helped Forest secure a seventh-place Premier League finish in the 2024-25 season before guiding the club to a 16th-place finish the following campaign, which also included a run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.
