Djokovic overcomes Rinderknech to make more history

Novak Djokovic added another remarkable milestone to his illustrious career after battling past Arthur Rinderknech to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon and equal Roger Federer's men's record for the most singles match wins at the All England Club.

Fresh from an impressive victory over former world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round, the seven-time Wimbledon champion faced a much tougher challenge against the 25th-seeded Frenchman on Centre Court.

The 39-year-old Serbian held his nerve to overcome Rinderknech 7-5, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (7-4), sealing his place in the last 16 after a spirited fightback from his opponent.

The victory marked Djokovic's 105th Wimbledon singles win, drawing him level with eight-time champion Roger Federer for the most men's singles victories at SW19. Only nine-time women's champion Martina Navratilova, with 120 singles wins, has recorded more victories at the tournament.

Djokovic also matched another of Federer's achievements by reaching the Wimbledon fourth round for the 18th time.

Reflecting on his latest milestone, Djokovic joked about settling the record with Federer on Centre Court.

"I propose a match between me and Roger for 106! Whoever wins it, gets it. Let's just stop this here and call him down," he said.

"To be able to make history on this court is a huge honour and privilege. This was always a childhood dream of mine.

"I'm not really thinking about how many more I can get. I'm just trying to win the match that's in front of me."

The men's record 24-time Grand Slam champion will next face Russian qualifier Roman Safiullin for a place in the quarter-finals after Safiullin stunned João Fonseca with a commanding 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 victory.

Meanwhile, defending champion Jannik Sinner also advanced to the fourth round, defeating American Jenson Brooksby 6-4, 6-3, 6-4.
