Ruben Amorim has finally spoken publicly about his departure from Manchester United, apologising to the club's supporters for not addressing them after his dismissal in January.
The Portuguese coach, who has signed a three-year contract with AC Milan, admitted he made mistakes during his time at Old Trafford but said he remains proud to have managed the club.
Speaking at his unveiling as AC Milan's new head coach, Amorim said:
"I didn't have the opportunity and I am sorry for that to say something to the Manchester United fans. But I am really proud to have been their coach."
The 41-year-old explained that his time at United taught him valuable lessons, adding that every experience helps a manager improve.
Amorim also revealed that one of his first priorities at AC Milan is convincing veteran midfielder Luka Modrić to remain at the club for another season.
Interestingly, Amorim could reunite with his former club sooner than expected, as AC Milan are set to face Manchester United in a pre-season friendly in Poland on 15 August.
While his spell at Old Trafford ended in disappointment, Amorim believes the experience has made him a better coach. His apology marks the first time he has publicly addressed Manchester United supporters since leaving the club, bringing an end to months of silence.
