Tuchel’s England Deal Includes Performance-Based Clause

England head coach Thomas Tuchel's contract extension is tied to performance-related clauses, Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham has revealed.

Tuchel, whose initial deal was set to expire after the 2026 World Cup, agreed a new two-year extension with the FA earlier this year that will keep him in charge until the end of Euro 2028.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager was appointed in 2024 with a clear objective: to lead England to World Cup glory.

Speaking ahead of England's World Cup campaign, Bullingham confirmed that performance measures are included in Tuchel's contract, although he declined to disclose specific details.

"There are performance clauses in every single contract at the FA, but I'm not going into any detail of what they are," Bullingham said.

Asked whether the FA has safeguards in place should England's World Cup performance fall below expectations, Bullingham reiterated that contractual provisions exist but offered no further explanation.

He also dismissed suggestions that Tuchel could trigger an early exit from the agreement, stating: "We can hold him to the contract."

Tuchel's England begin their World Cup campaign against Croatia in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday (21:00 BST), as the German looks to justify the FA's faith in extending his tenure.
