Williams Sisters Handed Wimbledon Doubles Wildcard

American tennis icons Serena and Venus Williams will reunite on the Wimbledon stage after receiving a wildcard entry for the women's doubles competition.

The legendary sisters were not included among the singles wildcard recipients, although one place in the women's singles draw remains available.

Serena, 44, returned to competitive action at Queen's Club last week, four years after what many believed would be the final match of her illustrious career at the 2022 US Open. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, who owns seven Wimbledon titles, is currently competing in doubles alongside Karolina Muchova in Berlin and will continue her comeback at the All England Club with sister Venus.

Venus, 45, a five-time Wimbledon singles champion, has endured a difficult season, losing all seven of her singles matches. However, she enjoyed success in doubles with Britain's Katie Boulter at the Madrid Open in April and will now aim to make another memorable run with Serena.

Elsewhere, former British number one Dan Evans was overlooked for a men's singles wildcard as he prepares to bring the curtain down on his career later this year.

Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who is also set to retire at the end of the season, received a wildcard entry alongside Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov.

In the women's draw, French Open runner-up Maja Chwalinska was rewarded for her impressive Roland Garros campaign with a singles wildcard.

The 2026 Wimbledon Championships get under way on 29 June, with the return of the Williams sisters set to be one of the tournament's biggest attractions.
