Saka: I'll Continue Risking My Fitness for England

0

Bukayo Saka says he is prepared to continue taking risks with his fitness and is "ready to go" for England's World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday.

The Arsenal winger has been managing an Achilles injury since March, with both club and country carefully monitoring his playing time. The issue forced him to miss the March international break and sidelined him for seven matches for Arsenal before he returned to help the Gunners secure their first Premier League title in 22 years.

England manager Thomas Tuchel has admitted that the 24-year-old's workload will need to be managed throughout the tournament, suggesting it is "very unlikely" that Saka will start and finish every World Cup match.

However, when asked whether he is ready to play the entirety of England's opening fixture in Dallas, Saka made it clear he feels prepared for selection.

"I don't want to say anything that goes against the manager," Saka said.

"What I would say is that between Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal medical team, and Thomas Tuchel and the England medical team, since March they have managed me amazingly and helped me get back on the pitch and do what I can for the team.

"I'm feeling better than I have felt in the last few months, and I'm ready to go."
