Former England international James Milner has announced his retirement from professional football, bringing an end to a remarkable 24-year Premier League career.
The 40-year-old midfielder was out of contract after spending the past three seasons at Brighton, having previously played for six different Premier League clubs during his long career.
Milner holds the record for the most Premier League appearances, a milestone he reached in February, underlining his longevity and consistency at the top level.
He began his career at Leeds United before going on to win three Premier League titles—two with Manchester City and one with Liverpool. He also lifted the Champions League with Liverpool in 2019.
On the international stage, Milner earned 61 caps for England after making his debut in 2009 while at Aston Villa, representing his country at multiple European Championships and World Cups.
In a farewell message, Milner reflected on a career filled with highs and lows, but said the friendships and experiences he built in the game would remain his greatest treasure.
