Manchester United are awaiting medical updates after Manuel Ugarte was stretchered off during Uruguay's 1-0 World Cup defeat to Spain with a suspected serious injury.
The 25-year-old twisted awkwardly while making a tackle and left the pitch in tears. United will wait for Uruguay's medical assessment before deciding the next steps.
Ugarte had been expected to leave Old Trafford this summer as part of United's planned midfield overhaul, but the injury could now complicate those plans.
The Red Devils have already agreed a £35 million deal for Atalanta's Ederson and continue to target additional midfield reinforcements, with Alex Scott, Mateus Fernandes and Carlos Baleba among the players on their shortlist.
