Manchester City are closing in on the appointment of former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca on a three-year deal, after reaching an agreement with their Premier League rivals over compensation.
The move comes one month after Pep Guardiola confirmed he will leave City at the end of his decade-long spell in charge. A deal is now at an advanced stage and is close to being finalised.
City and Chelsea have been in negotiations over a compensation package, understood to be well in excess of £10 million.
Chelsea believe they are entitled to compensation under the terms of Maresca’s departure, as the Italian was contracted until 2029 before leaving the club in January. The London club had also been considering legal options over the situation.
Maresca was quickly identified by City as their preferred—and reportedly only candidate, tasked with the significant challenge of succeeding Guardiola.
