0

Algeria came from behind to beat World Cup debutants Jordan 2-1 in San Francisco, keeping their hopes of reaching the knockout stage alive while ending Jordan's campaign without a point.

Despite Algeria dominating possession, it was Jordan who struck first in the 36th minute when Nizar Al Rashdan curled a fine effort into the net after a costly giveaway by Ramiz Zerrouki.

Algeria pushed hard for an equaliser after the break, with Yazeed Abulaila producing several important saves to keep Jordan in front. However, the pressure finally paid off in the 69th minute when Nadhir Benbouali headed home from Riyad Mahrez's corner.

Amine Gouiri then completed the turnaround in the 82nd minute, hooking in the winner after another dangerous inswinging corner fell kindly to him in the box.

Jordan had defended resolutely for long periods, but Algeria's persistence proved decisive as they secured a vital victory to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
