Former Warwickshire wicketkeeper Keith Piper has died at the age of 56, bringing an end to a distinguished career that saw him become one of the county's most respected players.

Piper spent 16 years with Warwickshire and played a pivotal role in the club's historic treble-winning campaign in 1994. Under the captaincy of Dermot Reeve, the Bears captured the County Championship, the Sunday League, and the Benson & Hedges Cup, narrowly missing out on a clean sweep after losing to Worcestershire in the NatWest Trophy final at Lord’s.

One of the standout performers during that remarkable season, Piper recorded 66 first-class dismissals and set a county record with seven catches in an innings against Essex. He also produced a career-best unbeaten 116 against Durham at Edgbaston, sharing the crease with Brian Lara during the West Indian legend's world-record unbeaten 501.

The century was one of two in Piper’s first-class career, alongside 14 half-centuries, as he amassed 4,618 runs in the format.

Behind the stumps, Piper was equally impressive, claiming 540 first-class dismissals, including more than 500 catches. He also recorded a further 308 dismissals in one-day cricket.

From his debut in 1989 to his final season in 2005, Piper helped Warwickshire win 10 major trophies, cementing his place among the club’s most successful and influential players.
