Flavio Cobolli battled past fourth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final, ensuring an Italian player will feature in Sunday’s French Open showpiece.

The 10th seed came from a set down to win 4-6 6-4 6-4 6-4 and set up an all-Italian semi-final clash with either Matteo Berrettini or Matteo Arnaldi.

It guarantees an Italian finalist in Paris, despite the shock early exit of top favourite Jannik Sinner.

“I don’t care which Matteo it is,” Cobolli said. “It’s been the best week of my life, but I’m still missing something, so I have to fight again.”

The 24-year-old will break into the top 10 next week if Jakub Mensik fails to win the title.
