Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has earned his first international call-up after being named in India’s T20 squad for their tour of England and Ireland.
If he makes his debut, the 15-year-old would become the youngest male cricketer to represent India, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s long-standing record of 16 years and 205 days.
The selection follows a sensational Indian Premier League season, where Suryavanshi scored 776 runs in 16 innings for Rajasthan Royals at a strike rate of 237.30. His performances saw him win the IPL Most Valuable Player award, the Emerging Player award, and the Orange Cap for the tournament’s highest run-scorer.
Earlier in the year, he also made headlines with a match-winning 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final against England.
India will play two T20Is in Ireland before a five-match series in England.
Elsewhere, Shreyas Iyer has been appointed India’s new T20 captain, replacing Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped despite leading India to T20 World Cup glory earlier this year.
