Anders Lind and Honoka Hashimoto are closing in on a historic breakthrough at the WTT Contender Lagos, as both champions from last year edge closer to potential repeat titles in Nigeria.
Anders Lind, the reigning men’s singles champion, is chasing a landmark achievement as he targets becoming the first player to successfully defend the Lagos crown. He showed resilience in the semi-finals, edging past Korea Republic’s Lim Jonghoon in a tense five-set battle to book his place in the final.
On the women’s side, Honoka Hashimoto is also on the brink of history. After a dominant semi-final win over Cheonhui Joo, she is aiming to become the first female player to win back-to-back titles at the Lagos event.
The WTT Contender Lagos, which has been staged since 2023, has never seen a successful title defence in either category, making this year’s finals particularly significant as both players look to rewrite the tournament’s history books.
Lind’s opponent in the final is Korea Republic’s Oh Junsung, while Hashimoto faces a strong challenge from compatriot Satsuki Odo in what promises to be a high-level clash for the women’s crown.
With both finalists carrying strong form into the decisive matches, Lagos could witness a new chapter in its short but competitive table tennis history.
