Kwara-born table tennis player Tobi Matti has intensified his ambition of qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as he continues to build his professional career in Italy.

The 25-year-old, who has spent over five years competing professionally in Italy, says reaching the Olympics remains his primary goal as he works to improve his global ranking and establish himself among the sport’s elite players.

Matti, who currently features for TT Centro Sportivo Bonacossa, explained that the Olympic Games represent the clearest measure of his progress and long-term ambition, despite the challenges he has faced on his journey so far.

“My goal is to participate in the 2028 Olympics and also attend multiple international tournaments, and that ambition has shaped my journey despite the challenges I face in trying to progress at this level,” he said.

The Nigerian athlete also highlighted the financial difficulties of competing internationally without consistent sponsorship, noting that he has largely relied on personal funding to sustain his career on the global circuit.

He admitted that the lack of structured support has made participation in overseas tournaments more demanding, but insisted he remains determined to continue competing at the highest level and improving his game.

As preparations continue toward the 2028 Olympic cycle, Matti’s focus remains firmly on development, consistency, and securing the opportunities needed to reach the sport’s biggest stage.
