Manchester United’s 18-year-old forward Shea Lacey is on the brink of becoming a first-team regular, according to U21 coach Adam Lawrence.
Lacey made his senior debut under Ruben Amorim in December and featured during Darren Fletcher’s brief spell as interim boss. Despite a red card in the FA Cup against Brighton, United believe the experience has aided his development.
Lawrence said Lacey’s technical skill is “genuinely first-team level,” though he has been a later physical developer, requiring patience. He now trains with the first team daily and plays U21 games when needed, scoring six goals in three recent appearances.
The coaching staff are optimistic about Lacey’s future, with Carrick supportive of his gradual integration and potential full transition to the first team.
