Lamine Yamal picked up an injury while scoring a penalty that helped Barcelona secure a narrow win over Celta Vigo and extend their lead at the top of La Liga to nine points.
The 18-year-old won and converted the penalty in the 40th minute at the Nou Camp after being fouled by Yoel Lago, calmly finishing past goalkeeper Ionut Radu.
However, right after scoring, Yamal signalled to the bench and went down holding his hamstring. He was forced off the pitch and replaced by Roony Bardghji, raising concerns for both Barcelona and Spain ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick said the club will assess the injury, hoping it is not serious. The win moves the reigning champions closer to retaining the La Liga title, with six games remaining, but Yamal’s fitness could be a concern ahead of the crucial El Clasico clash with Real Madrid.
The young star has been in top form this season, contributing 16 goals and 11 assists, and was recently named Young Player of the Tournament at Euro 2024.
