Former Liverpool and Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano has stepped down as head coach of MLS side Inter Miami.
The 41-year-old, who took charge in 2024, led the club to their first MLS Cup win in 2025. He said he is leaving for personal reasons and will always remember the achievement with the team.
Mascherano previously played alongside Inter Miami stars Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez at Barcelona and also coached Argentina at the 2024 Olympics.
Former Barcelona B coach Guillermo Hoyos, who was Miami’s sporting director, will take over as manager immediately. The club are currently third in the MLS Eastern Conference after seven games.
