Durham County Cricket Club pulled off a remarkable victory after chasing down 336 to beat Lancashire County Cricket Club by eight wickets in a standout County Championship clash.
The hosts were in early trouble after losing both openers in the morning session, but the game turned completely thanks to a stunning third-wicket partnership between Emilio Gay and David Bedingham.
The pair produced an unbeaten stand of 290, the highest third-wicket partnership in Durham’s history against Lancashire, as they took control of the chase with fluent and composed batting. Gay and Bedingham both reached brilliant centuries, gradually wearing down the bowling attack as conditions eased during the day.
Lancashire had earlier put Durham under pressure, but the home side’s recovery was complete as the target steadily came down and the batters accelerated with confidence. Gay passed 150 in a dominant innings, while Bedingham added power with several boundaries and a six to keep momentum firmly with Durham.
The victory sealed Durham’s second win of the season and moved them up the table, strengthening their promotion hopes in a tightly contested Division Two campaign.
