Donald Trump has said he “doesn’t care” whether Iran takes part in this summer’s FIFA World Cup, despite rising tensions between the countries.
The United States is co-hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico, but ongoing conflict in the Middle East has raised questions about Iran’s participation.
Iran have already qualified and are due to play group matches in Los Angeles and Seattle, though Iranian football chief Mehdi Taj has admitted uncertainty over their involvement. Meanwhile, FIFA says its priority is ensuring a safe tournament with all teams taking part.
