Paul Scholes said an Instagram post about Michael Carrick was not meant to offend his former teammate.
Scholes made the comment after Manchester United lost 2–1 to Newcastle United in the Premier League, writing that Carrick must have something special because United had not been playing well in their last four games.
The remark drew criticism, including from former teammate Patrice Evra, who joked that Scholes might have been hacked. Scholes later explained on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast that he had already messaged Carrick to clarify his comments.
He said Carrick, who replaced Ruben Amorim as interim coach, told him he was not upset. Scholes added that he only meant United had not played well recently, but Carrick was still getting results.
