Newcastle United dealt a blow to Chelsea’s hopes of reaching the Champions League as Anthony Gordon scored the only goal in a first-half winner at Stamford Bridge.
Gordon’s 18th-minute finish followed a clever pass from Tino Livramento, after Joe Willock broke Chelsea’s offside trap. It was Newcastle’s first home win over Chelsea since 2012.
Chelsea created chances through Wesley Fofana, Alejandro Garnacho, Cole Palmer, and Enzo Fernandez, but goalkeeper Rob Sanchez made key saves for Newcastle.
Chelsea’s substitutes, including Liam Delap, tested Aaron Ramsdale, and captain Reece James hit the post with a late free-kick, but the Blues couldn’t find an equaliser.
Chelsea were booed off after losing back-to-back home games, while Newcastle climb to ninth in the Premier League, leaving Chelsea fifth with a game in hand over Liverpool.
