Milan Smit scored a last-minute penalty to deny Ipswich Town a win in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Stoke City’s bet365 Stadium.
Stoke had taken the lead through Smit’s first English football goal and Bae Jun-Ho before half-time. Ipswich fought back after the break, with Wes Burns reducing the deficit and Jack Taylor leveling the score. George Hirst then looked to have given Ipswich the winner.
But a late penalty for a foul by Cedric Kipre allowed Smit to score again, and Stoke salvaged a draw. The result left Ipswich fourth, three points behind Millwall, with 10 games to go, while Stoke remain 15th, having won just once in their last 11 matches.
Ipswich made some lineup changes with their two Jacks, Taylor and Clarke, back, while playmaker Marcelino Nunez missed out. Stoke had five changes due to suspensions and injuries.
The match saw plenty of drama, including Ipswich hitting the post, Stoke’s early goals amid appeals, and both teams creating several chances before the final late twist from Smit’s penalty.
