Carrie Jones says Wales are grateful to still have Jess Fishlock involved as they begin their Women’s World Cup qualifying campaign.

Wales start their bid to reach the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil with a match against the Czech Republic. Although Jess Fishlock retired from international football last October, she remains with the squad as a technical assistant to head coach Rhian Wilkinson.

Jones said Fishlock’s experience and leadership are “hugely important” to the team, adding that the players are thankful she has chosen to stay involved.

After the Czech Republic game, Fishlock will return to Seattle Reign for the new NWSL season, while Wales will prepare to face Montenegro in their next qualifier.
