Martin O’Neill says he was surprised by Danny Rohl’s “extraordinary” comments about Celtic ahead of the Old Firm derby.
Rohl, Rangers’ head coach, questioned some of O’Neill’s team decisions and suggested Celtic did not push hard enough in their recent Europa League win over Stuttgart. He also hinted it would be interesting to see if O’Neill brings Kasper Schmeichel back in goal.
O’Neill reacted strongly, saying it was “absolutely extraordinary” for Rohl to comment on his team selection and insisted there was no need for him to do so. He disagreed with the claim that Celtic failed to push for more goals, saying they were simply up against a strong opponent.
Despite the exchange, O’Neill does not believe the comments will add extra tension to the Old Firm derby, which could play a big role in the Scottish title race.
