Lindsey Vonn says she nearly lost her leg after a serious crash at the Winter Olympics in Italy.
The 41-year-old American skier broke her leg and ankle during the women’s downhill in Cortina and has since had multiple surgeries. She revealed she developed compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition that restricts blood flow, and needed an emergency fasciotomy.
Vonn thanked her surgeon, Dr Tom Hackett, saying he saved her leg from amputation. She is now out of hospital but in a wheelchair and faces a long recovery that could take up to a year.
