James Tavernier scored a first-half hat-trick as Rangers crushed Queen’s Park 8-0 to reach the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, avenging last year’s shock defeat.
Tavernier opened the scoring from close range and added two more before halftime, including a penalty after the goalkeeper was sent the wrong way. Ryan Naderi scored twice, Matty Shiels had an own goal, Bojan Miovski netted the seventh, and Tochi Chukwuani completed the rout in the second half.
Queen’s Park, who had a lucky run in the previous round after Stranraer were expelled, offered little resistance this time, with a disallowed Aidan Connolly goal their only moment of joy.
