Rashid Khan reached a rare milestone in unusual style as Afghanistan beat United Arab Emirates by five wickets to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
The leg-spinner claimed his 700th T20 wicket when UAE batter Muhammad Arfan accidentally hit his own stumps — the first “hit wicket” dismissal of Rashid’s career. It was his 191st T20 international wicket, adding to 509 in domestic T20s, making him the first player to reach 700.
Afghanistan restricted UAE to 160-9, with Azmatullah Omarzai taking 4-15. Ibrahim Zadran scored a quick 53, and Omarzai sealed the chase with an unbeaten 40 as Afghanistan won with four balls to spare.
They must now beat New Zealand in their final group game and improve their net run-rate to qualify.
