Lionel Messi was brought down by a fan who ran onto the pitch during Inter Miami CF’s friendly win over Independiente del Valle in Puerto Rico.
Messi came on at half-time and was taking a selfie with a supporter late in the match when another fan grabbed him around the waist and pulled him to the ground. Security quickly stepped in, with Messi, the fan and a guard briefly ending up in a heap on the turf.
The Argentina captain appeared unhurt and walked away as more security arrived.
Messi scored from the penalty spot in Miami’s 2-1 win, while Santiago Morales added the other goal.
The match had originally been scheduled for 13 February but was postponed because Messi had a hamstring injury.
Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, began their Major League Soccer season with a 3-0 defeat to Los Angeles FCand next face state rivals Orlando City SC.
