Manchester United moved closer to the Champions League quarter-finals with a strong 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their knockout play-off.
Goals from Elisabeth Terland, Melvine Malard and Julia Zigiotti Olme in Spain put United firmly in control of the tie. The winner will face Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
Terland opened the scoring inside three minutes after a great pass from Malard. She had another goal ruled out for offside after a VAR check.
Malard made it 2-0 before half-time with a brilliant curled finish, and Zigiotti Olme sealed the win late on after another assist from Malard.
Atletico Madrid created chances but could not break through, while United stayed solid and clinical. The return leg will take place at Old Trafford on 19 February.
In another tie, Wolfsburg scored late to draw 2-2 with Juventus. The winners of that match will play Lyon in the quarter-finals.
