Manchester United reached the quarter-finals of the Women’s Champions League in their debut season after beating Atletico Madrid 5-0 on aggregate.
Having already won 3-0 in Spain, United finished the job at Leigh Sports Village. Julia Zigiotti opened the scoring from Lisa Naalsund’s assist, before Jess Park added a superb second to seal the tie before half-time.
Atletico tried to respond, with Synne Jensen testing goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, but they could not break through. The night ended on a sour note for the visitors as Xenia Perez was sent off.
United will now face Bayern Munich in the last eight, joining English rivals Arsenal and Chelsea, who meet each other in the quarter-finals.
