Italy captain Lamaro proud as perception of team changes

Michele Lamaro says he is proud of how the perception of Italy national rugby union team has changed, despite their narrow 20-13 defeat to Ireland national rugby union team in the Six Nations Championship.

After beating Scotland in Rome, Italy pushed Ireland hard in Dublin and were in contention until the closing stages. Head coach Gonzalo Quesada praised the performance, and Lamaro reflected on how far the team has come.

He recalled that in his first year as captain, people questioned whether Italy should remain in the Six Nations. Now, he says, there is genuine belief within the squad and growing respect from others.

Lamaro added that the team wants to inspire young players in Italy and build a lasting legacy, saying the biggest source of pride is no longer being seen as automatic bottom-of-the-table finishers but as genuine competitors.
