Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe says he would resign if he didn’t believe he was the right person to lead the team.
Howe’s side were booed off after a 3-2 loss to Brentford, leaving Newcastle 12th in the Premier League. He admitted he was “not doing my job well enough at the moment” but insisted there was “no doubt” he is still the right man for the job.
“If I didn’t think I was the correct man to take the team forward, I would step aside and let someone else do it,” Howe said. Despite winning only one of their last eight games, he retains the backing of the club, having led Newcastle to a domestic trophy and Champions League football since 2021.
Howe acknowledged this is a tough period but said past experiences and the team’s collective spirit can help turn things around quickly.
