Wolves are close to signing England midfielder Angel Gomes on loan from Marseille.

The former Manchester United player is set for a return to the Premier League, with talks between the two clubs now at an advanced stage. The deal is expected to be a loan move with an option to buy.

Gomes joined Marseille from Lille last summer but has struggled for regular starts, not beginning a Ligue 1 match since November. He has scored four goals in 20 appearances in all competitions but did not start any Champions League games.

The 25-year-old came through Manchester United’s academy and made 10 senior appearances for the club. He made history when he debuted at just 16, becoming United’s youngest player since Duncan Edwards in 1953.

Gomes has four England caps, all earned under former caretaker boss Lee Carsley, with his most recent appearance coming in October 2024.
