Manchester United head coach Michael Carrick says he respects the club’s fans and is not upset by the protest planned ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game against Fulham.
Carrick has won both matches since returning as manager, with surprise victories over Manchester City and Arsenal. The results have lifted United into the top four for the first time this season, but the 1958 supporters’ group is still going ahead with its protest against the club’s ownership.
The group expects thousands of fans to take part in a march outside Old Trafford before kick-off, saying the protest is about long-term issues with the ownership, not performances on the pitch.
Carrick chose to focus on the backing he and his players have received from supporters. He said the team feels strong support inside the stadium and stressed he is not offended by the protest.
“The connection we’ve had with the fans over the last couple of weeks has been special,” Carrick said, adding that the players and supporters need to keep building on that relationship.
